Annual General Meeting (2026)

All are welcome to attend this meeting.
Veteran’s Day Event (2025)
at the VW RBL Club
The FCTW had a stall at the Veteran’s Day celebration event, held at the Virginia Water Royal British Legion club. Members of the committee were on hand to inform visitors about the work the FCTW carries out, raise awareness of the need to keep the Cabrera Trust Fund topped up and to advertise the fact that there is a beautiful Nature Reserve in the heart of the village.
Our local councillors all visited the stall. The photo, below, shows Cllrs Hulley and Howarth with George and Jane from the committee.

Annual General Meeting (AGM) – 2025
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Friends Of Cabrera Trust and Woods took place at the Virginia Water Community Centre
on March 7th, starting at 7:30pm.
The Friends of Cabrera Trust and Woods (FCTW) was set up, in March 2023, to raise funds to ensure this invaluable green space resource is protected for us, our children, and grandchildren.
We have made considerable progress in the last year and the AGM will give the committee members the chance to thank generous donors and inform you of the work that we have been able to fund to maintain the walk including complete replacement of one of the bridges.
Nevertheless, there is a pressing need to continue our efforts so that the Trust Fund is supported and provides the resource required to ensure that the
Riverside Walk and Nature Reserve continue to be maintained, protected and remain under local control.
The FCTW aims to raise a minimum of £6,000 each year from local resident and commercial donations. If you are unable to attend our Annual Meeting, donations can be made directly from our web site.

All are welcome to attend our AGM.
PREVIOUS EVENTS
A Guided Walk on Saturday, 1st June, 2024
FCTW provided a guided walk to the ladies of the Trumps Green W.I. and welcomed along family members, too. All those who came enjoyed the walk, with commentary being provided along the way as well as some of the children reading out the details associated with a few of the way-marker points.
FCTW will be erecting QR codes that can be scanned at each way-marker post so that informative details will be readily available to any visitor on the Riverside Walk.

A Talk at the Virginia Water Community Library Saturday, 15th June
FCTW have teamed up with the Virginia Water Library to hold a presentation about the Virginia Water Nature Reserve aimed at children aged between four and fourteen years of age. This will be followed by an optional walk, at parent’s discretion, around the signposted walk. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Book your places at the Library Front Desk.

A presentation at Thorpe Green Women’s Institute
Wednesday, April 24th
Philip Beesley and Jeff Turner, both on the FCTW committee, gave a presentation to the local WI meeting. The talk gave information about the setting up of the Cabrera Trust, the importance of the Cabrera Trust land and how the Nature Reserve and Riverside Walk were managed and maintained.
Using a combination of video and PowerPoint slides, many containing photos of the flowers, birds and animals that can be found in the Nature Reserve, the talk was very well received.
Now that we have the presentation slides, if anyone is interested in us giving a similar talk to their group, please contact us by emailing: admin@frindsofcabrera.co.uk
Several of those attending the WI meeting have now signed up to go on a guided walk along the Riverside Walk in early May.
The photo, below, shows (L to R) Jeff, the co-chairs of the WI and Philip just after answering all the questions at the end of the presentation:

The Great Big Green Week
A community walk of the Cabrera Trust
Bourne Riverside Walk
Saturday
June 17th, 2023
at: 2:00pm
The guided walk took place on a very hot day. It was, therefore, so nice to be walking in the shade of the trees in a much cooler atmosphere.
The walk was led by Philip, one of the Cabrera Trust wardens. Other members of the FCTW committee were also on the walk, each offering information that they had gleaned over the years.
Although not many people attended, those who did thoroughly enjoyed the walk and learnt quite a lot about the flora, habitats and diversity on the Cabrera land.
